February 2009 - HC Triumph over DC United
HC Recruitment scored an important victory netting a win over DC United at Heywood Sport Centre. The team, which was made up from HC Recruitment's Head Office based staff and JD Sport's Heywood Distribution Centre Management, managed to keep their reputation in tact despite a very slow start.
DC United raced into an early lead scoring 3 early goals. A few tactical substitutions and motivational words from Danny Wilde resulted in a fightback of epic proportions. Man-of-the-Match Matt Cullen notched two goals and was a constant threat with his set piece routines. Paul Bentley also chipped in with 2 goals - one a Beckham style free-kick from 25 yards which left the keeper rooted to the spot. Paul's other 74 shots were saved by DC United's goalkeeper.
Garry Plumpton (Head of JD Distribution) survived a mystery injury - sustained with no other person involved - and recovered to keep the defence steady with Mike Stretton, Lee Harwood and Mark Hunter.
Craig Buckley and Danny Wilde kept the side ticking over with powerful performances in the midfield - although Craig's shooting boots were clearly refusing to take part. The pigeons were the only target under any real threat on a number of occasions.
The final score was 9-6.
A post-match presentation took place at The Grapes followed by drinks and banter stretching long into the night.
Our thanks to everyone involved and a special mention to Mark Furlong for volunteering to referee this passionate local derby.
